Hambleton District Council appointed SPA Architects to carry out masterplan and technical design works for a new sports village in Sowerby near Thirsk. This included a multi-use run/walk/cycle route, natural turf football and rugby pitches, an artificial grass pitch and anew pavilion with community facilities along with external works, landscaping and parking. The works are phased, with Phase 1 consisting of the run/cycle/walk route around natural grass sports pitches in the eastern half of the site and were completed in 2020.
In phase 2SPA working as lead designer carried out feasibility and concept design work for The new pavilion. The pavilion has been designed to be adapted in the future to add 2additional outdoor change rooms and a first floor social space and external viewing terrace. The current facilities include: 2 outdoor change rooms, café, reception, accessible change, lockers and community room. Having worked on multiple community sports pavilions and with extensive knowledge of Sport England design guidance notes, SPA Architects have added value by providing an efficient layout and structure with a contemporary and robust palette of materials.
Construction of the sports pavilion is due to start in the summer (2022)
